Chair asks about 36,000 jobs projection
Won asks whether the former administration's projection of 36,000 jobs annually is still accurate and when full implementation is expected. Harry says the projection was based on estimated procurement spend and labor market analysis, and OCH is continuing to assess hiring needs.
I look forward to the new system for non-construction contracts for reporting.
In June 2024, the former administration projected that the community hiring would create an estimate of 36,000 jobs annually once fully implemented.
Is this projection still accurate?
When does OCH expect the program to be fully implemented?
And how does OCH measure the program to meet those projection goals of 36,000 jobs annually and that you are on track?
Yeah, so this number at the time was analyzed based on a variety of estimated procurement spend, budget documents, labor market analysis.
So it was reflective of what the program may be when it's fully, fully implemented.
All contracts that could have community hiring have community hiring.
They're actually fully going through the full procurement cycle, which means not just the procuring of that, but the actual service term, right, so the many, many years.
And so...
That projection was made many years ago.
We are continuing to look at procurement spend and what is in the procurement pipeline, and most importantly, working with the vendors and really understanding the hiring needs, because we do know that hiring is not exclusively based on what a contract amount.
As you mentioned, Chair, there is one vendor who has an exceptionally high hiring need, and they were able to dramatically exceed their goal, which is great, but it makes it a little tough to estimate the exact amount.
But we are very excited that even with the one
79 contracts that were registered to date and published in the report that's hit nearly 1,200 community hires so far.
