Chair asks about apprenticeship hours zero
Won says all five contracts with apprenticeship goals that reported progress showed zero hours by community hire apprentices against a 9% goal. Harry says apprenticeships are important but it is early and OCH expects more apprentices.
All five contracts with an apprenticeship goal that have reported progress showed no hours worked by apprentices who are community hires against the 9% goal.
Why are no community hire apprentices working on these contracts?
So apprenticeships is really...
An important part of the work that we do in the community hiring team, but even beyond.
We believe that the apprenticeships are a really good tool for talent development because they're paid on-the-job training.
So far, we don't have data on any apprentices working today.
But again, since we're early on, we do anticipate that we will continue to see and get more apprentices who are community hires working on these projects.
Like I said, we have a really strong partnership with the building trades and through our PLAs, and so we're always looking for good ways to get more New Yorkers into the trades, working as apprentices and advancing to journey person.
