Abreu asks DOT about pedestrian priority districts and FIDI
Abreu relays Council Member Marte's question about whether the administration will pedestrianize Lower Manhattan, specifically FIDI, under the pedestrian priority districts initiative. DOT says the program is new, there is potential in high-pedestrian, low-vehicle areas, and more details will come next year.
Councilmember Chris Marte wanted me to ask a question on his behalf.
As part of the visions that were reimagined, there were pedestrian priority districts mentioned.
Is the administration committing to pedestrianize lower Manhattan, specifically FIDI?
We will have more details to share on that program.
It's new.
We're excited.
We think there's a lot of potential in different neighborhoods where we're seeing high pedestrian volumes and lower vehicle volumes.
So there'll be more to share.
The council member is very supportive of this project and just wanted to communicate that.
I don't want to scoop you in your announcement, but when...
Regardless of the neighborhood being selected, by when should we expect this pedestrian-only area to be done?
Well, we'd like to move quickly on any and all of the ideas in the Vision Zero reimagined.
Sometime next year?
I'm sure we'll see movement on just about every initiative in that plan in some way, shape, or form by next year.
All right.
Well.
Councilmember Hanif has one more question, and then we'll close out.
