Abreu questions DOT on Vision Zero Reimagined benchmarks
Abreu begins questions on Vision Zero Reimagined, asking what measurable benchmarks DOT will use and how they differ from previous Vision Zero initiatives. Flynn cites numerical targets for daylighting and priority corridors and says DOT will create a Vision Zero dashboard.
Thank you, Councilmember.
All right, let's head to some questions now.
This should have some questions on Vision Zero Reimagined.
In September 2026, the administration released Vision Zero Reimagined, a 10-year action plan outlining eight strategic goals, including stronger enforcement, safer street designs, and expanded use of technology.
While the goals set forth in this new plan are laudable, the devil's in the details, and we must make sure that they are implemented effectively, transparently, and in a timely manner.
Commissioner, what specific measurable benchmarks would DOT use to evaluate progress under Vision Zero Reimagined, and how do these benchmarks differ from previous Vision Zero initiatives?
Thank you, Chair.
Yeah, you know, we absolutely agree that we can only measure success if we're tracking these kinds of things, right?
And that's why the plan includes a number of commitments that include numerical targets, whether it's implementing 1,000 intersections with daylighting or better, or addressing the
roughly 200 Vision Zero priority corridors.
It also includes a commitment to creating a Vision Zero dashboard.
That would be a place where you can find...
a whole lot of different kinds of information about the program and the results.
Likewise related, we'll have an update to the streets plan coming out in the next couple months, and that'll include some additional targets and metrics that we'll be measuring.
And we're certainly open to other ideas as well.
Thank you, Commissioner.
And we'll get into those specific benchmarks, like daylighting later, for instance.
