Boubacar Key supports Intro 613 and safer working conditions
Boubacar Key says delivery drivers deserve safe streets, protected bike lanes, and safe working conditions, not more policing and tickets. He supports Intro 613's 100 miles per year for six years and calls for secure bike parking, charging stations, and rest areas for the over 80,000 delivery workers.
Good afternoon, Majority Leader Sean Avri, and thank you for the opportunity to testify today.
My name is Abu Akaki, and I have been a daily worker.
I'm here to strongly support Intro 613 because the delivery driver workers deserve safe streets, protected bike lanes, and safe working conditions.
Not more policing, harassment, and tickets.
This bill will require the Department of Transportation to build 100 miles of protective bike lanes every year for six years.
This is the kind of investment we need to protect the more than 80,000 daily workers who will keep this city running every day.
We appreciate the protected bike lane the city has already built, but our work does not stop there.
We need circular bike parking, safe e-bike sharing station, and designated resting and waiting area.
Instead of spending more money policing delivery workers, the city should invest in protective bike lanes, practical safety solutions, and infrastructure that saves lives.
We call on Majority Leader Sean Abre and our elected official to work jointly with Lost Resources in Needles and the Worker Justice Project.
To develop policies that protect workers rather than punish them.
And I invite you to do, to experience our daily challenge, see the dangerous street we navigate, the pressure we face, and the risk we take to deliver food to New Yorkers.
Do not make decisions about our life without understanding our reality.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Thank you for your time.
