Williams supports Sammy's Law expansion and Stop Super Speeders
Williams supports expanding Sammy's Law speed limits beyond school zones to other designated areas and calls for immediate local implementation of the Stop Super Speeders program. He asks that speed-limiting devices be applied equitably.
To further enhance safety, the city must expand the implementation of SAMI's law, lowering speed limits beyond school zones to include other designated areas.
I don't know that I yet support across the entire city, but definitely some other areas outside of school zones.
Furthermore, advocates are calling for immediate local programming of another state law, the Super Speed Initiative by Councilmember Santa Suoso.
Did I say that correctly?
Oh, praise God.
Which mandates speed limiting devices for chronic reckless drivers.
I just want to make sure that that will be applied equitably to everyone in the city.
As noted by the mayor, reckless drivers account for nearly 40% of traffic fatalities and pose a significantly higher risk of causing severe collisions repeatedly.
Building on the city's initiatives, we should prioritize legislative action that will prevent reckless driving.
As motor vehicles crashes, which people have to remember, we talk about cycling and even horses, crashes by vehicles remain a significantly greater hazard than anything else in the city.
And every time we try to move on it, we get a particularly vociferous response.
