Wong questions collision report audits and Traffic Stat records
Wong asks how the 104th Precinct prepares and supervises collision reports and corrects errors. Rivera cites traffic safety team audits and says Highway CIS is handling the specific case. Wong asks for Traffic Stat records; Flynn says those are internal confidential NYPD meetings.
Okay, I'll get to traffic stats in a minute, but I appreciate that Highway has now taken over the case.
My concern with Highway...
How does the 104th Precinct handle collision reports generally?
Could you review how those reports are prepared or checked by supervisors and corrected when errors identify?
How does that system work when you see errors?
So there's audits in place that traffic safety teams within precincts handle.
So in this particular case, it seems you're saying that there's a discrepancy in how the report was written.
So I think it's been handled, again, by Highway CIS, and I think it's prudent that we wait until they come to some resolution.
Okay.
As a follow-up question, since you mentioned traffic stat meetings,
I don't see any records, public records that I could review.
Are these like minutes or records available?
Anybody know?
Yeah, those traffic stat meetings, like comstat meetings, are internal police department meetings.
We need to have confidentiality in order to have the truly frank and honest conversations about exactly what needs to be done.
That's an important part of our operational procedure.
But the results that are coming out of those are things that will be communicated out as appropriate.
