Banks says NYCHA lacks oversight for commercial facilities leased to OACs
Banks says NYCHA has a poor track record maintaining buildings, including facilities used by OACs. While NYCHA has been under federal monitorship since 2019 for residential habitability, there is no such monitor for commercial facilities leased to community providers. He has heard countless complaints about persistent repair problems.
NITRA, unfortunately, does not have a good track record when it comes to maintaining its buildings.
And this extends to their facilities that are used by the older adult centers.
Importantly, while NYCHA has been under federal monitorship since 2019
to improve its operations and facilitate a baseline standard of hability for NYCHA residents,
it has no such monitor when it comes to its commercial facilities that get leased to community service providers like the OACs.
And I've received and have heard of countless complaints around the persistent problems that these
older adult centers and older residents face because of NYCHA's lack of timely, timely, transparent operations when it comes to repairs.
