Brewer asks how RAD/PACT conversions affect OAC repairs
Council Member Gale Brewer asks how RAD/PACT conversions impact repairs at OACs. Trimble says NYCHA works to include comprehensive modernization of centers in PACT financing, but it is not always possible. Section 8 rents cannot support community center renovation, so city subsidy is required.
Thank you very much.
A couple of things.
One is with the rad pack because as you know on the Upper West Side I think we're pretty getting very rad packed.
So my question is if there's a center where there's a rad pack, how does that impact, if at all,
the issues at that center in terms of repairs?
So as part of our PAC program, we work hard to ensure that the centers also receive a comprehensive modernization, just like the apartments.
We will scope that out and do our best to include that in the financing.
Sometimes it's not always possible.
Sometimes we've had to take out the center.
It really depends on the funding that's available for that project.
We cannot use Section 8 rents to support a community center renovation, so it would require city subsidy.
So as long as we have enough funding in the project, we will include the scope for the center to ensure that's part of the project as well.
We understand it's an important community resource.
We want to see it improved just alongside our apartments.
