Morgage describes Riverstone programs and 40-year history at NYCHA
Morgage says Riverstone offers art classes, pool tables, social services, and a health homes program. It uniquely operates the borough's only bilingual adult day program for dementia. Riverstone turns 40 this year and has been housed at NYCHA's Senior Development at 99 Fort Washington Avenue the whole time.
Riverstone is located in Washington Heights and provides really engaging older adult center programming.
The art classes are fabulous.
The center vibrates with energy, but to tell you the truth, I think it's the pool tables that bring in more men than is usual at a senior center.
There is a very effective social services department and a vital health homes program.
Uniquely, Riverstone also operates the
Burroughs only bilingual adult day program for those with dementia or other memory impairments.
We would welcome a visit from any of you on these committees to see our programs in action.
Riverstone turns 40 this year.
And has been housed at NYCHA's Senior Development, 99 Fort Washington Avenue, the whole time.
I joined the board in 2016, but I was also involved with Riverstone through my council staff responsibilities from 2002 to 2013.
So I think I
have a good background view of the organization.
Under NYCHA management, we had a fairly typical nonprofit experience, including no rent since we were a mandated service to support a senior housing development.
