Chair Brooks-Powers asks about supports in the nursery program
Brooks-Powers asks what supports are available to parents and children in the nursery. Greysock describes doulas, social workers, correctional counselors, Our Children reentry support, and partnerships with WPA, Osborne, New Hour, and Homebase.
What supports are available to parents and children in the nursery program?
Thank you for that question.
So the doulas are on site at least twice a week, and they help the mom around newborn care, anything from diapering, breastfeeding, any kind of emotional support that's needed.
We also have a team of counselors that are regularly inside the nursery.
So we have a social worker and a correctional counselor that provides one-on-one support, coordination with other programs, coordination with CHS, assistance with any paperwork.
They're sort of the main go-to for any kind of key DOC services.
Our Children has a presence in the nursery as well.
They primarily support around reentry, and they also coordinate with a network of other nonprofits that have a presence at Rosen Singer Centers.
That includes the Women's Prison Association, Osborne Association, New Hour, and Homebase.
There are other services that are available as well, for example, chaplaincy and, of course, any mandated services.
We also have an early childhood education counselor who is at the nursery providing support as well.
