Chair Farías questions duration and procurement of doula contract

New York City Council · Oct 27, 2026 · starts 0:33:46 · 1 min 3 sec

Farías asks how long DOC has had the doula contract and whether it is open for RFP. Greysock says the contract has been renewed for several years, originally two years and currently one year, following procurement rules.

Amanda C. Farías

How long have we had that contract?

Amanda C. Farías

Is there like an open RFP, RFA, or have we had it for an extended time period?

Valerie Greysock

We've had it for at least several years.

Valerie Greysock

We've been renewing it.

Valerie Greysock

The original contract for two years and the current contract is for one year.

Valerie Greysock

But every year we renew this contract and we're actually looking to increase our investment in dual programming because the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

Amanda C. Farías

Great.

Amanda C. Farías

Sorry, just for my own clarification, is typically the contract for two years or is it one year with option to renew for an additional?

Valerie Greysock

The current one is for one year.

Amanda C. Farías

For one year.

Amanda C. Farías

Okay.

Amanda C. Farías

Have there been any other vendors that we've used in the past with DOC for doula services that's provided to folks that are incarcerated?

Valerie Greysock

So we follow the procurement rules when we release the solicitation, and this vendor has been selected during this period and the previous period

Valerie Greysock

based on their extensive experience working in the city and with women and with justice-involved women.
