Council Member Brewer questions ability to place families near schools
Brewer says families were often told it was too hard to place near school. Dalton says initial placement in the borough of the youngest child's school was 62.9%, rising over 80% over the duration of stay.
If you can, you can't always do it.
I guess one of the questions would be how often are you able to do that?
My experience during the migrant crisis was efforts, but they weren't always able to do that.
And even before your tenure.
When previous administration, I asked about the same thing, even before the bill, and I was told it's too hard to find a shelter or too hard to find a house or too hard, et cetera.
Sure.
And so the main issue we have is getting out of the hotel, into a shelter, and so we're not dealing with the 3-year-old, the 4-year-old, or the family, or the school.
So maybe that's changed, but that's what I was told.
By Molly.
Yeah.
I mean, there are two, I can give you the latest measures from the MMR on the specific measure that's included there.
So we do better over time, but in terms of the initial placement, 63 at 62,
0.9% of families were initially placed in the borough of the youngest school-aged child.
So we're not hitting that every time.
And I will say, as you know, like there are other considerations to be made.
I gave the example.
No, I know DV is a big, that's a whole different world.
I'm not even thinking about that.
It's everybody else, not DV.
Right.
And as we look at families and placements that are in their borough of the youngest child school over time, you know, over the duration of their stay, it's over 80%.
And so we are very much managing to this idea of school continuity.
Okay.
