Jimenez on message that patients won't lose access to care
Jimenez stresses the message that patients won't lose access to care regardless of insurance status, which he says is critical as people cycle on and off Medicaid. Long shares a patient's fear of losing her doctor after an insurance change.
An important message that we deliver to all our patients also as a part of this health insurance screenings process is that you're not going to lose access to care, right?
So we're always telling our patients just come to seek our care regardless of your insurance status.
And this is going to be really important as folks are falling on and off with these new Medicaid requirements and both work requirements and recertification.
And I'm assuming they get contact after the recruiting.
I heard that you're saying that you continue correspondence with them, sending them information so they know, despite what's going on now, you still can come to us.
We are here for you.
Yeah.
Yes, absolutely.
And just to give you another quick anecdote, because that just really stuck with me.
This is a really scary time.
I know.
And people, while they don't understand all the nuance of all the Medicaid changes and all that, people know that scary things are on their horizon.
They could lose the care that they have.
But from my patient's point of view, I'll tell a quick story.
I had a patient that I saw in clinic recently, and this is heartbreaking.
I worked with her very closely for a serious chronic condition she has.
And I went into my office, and she was there.
She started crying.
And I asked her what was wrong.
And she said, nothing to do with her health care.
She said that she had to change an insurance plan because of everything we're talking about here.
And the new insurance plan said that I wasn't the doctor on the plan.
And then she thought she lost me.
Yeah.
And it was terrifying for her.
And I just know that she's just the first of so many people that are going to have that same, you know, fear and really, you know, horrible experience of being told they're losing their doctor, being scared of losing their doctor.
So what we say, what I told her and what I tell all my patients, which is what we tell everybody at H&H, if you lose your health insurance plan, you will not lose your doctor.
And that's what.
means to treat health care as a human right at health and hospitals.
For you, I don't have the concern.
I just want to make sure it's across the board that we're all utilizing the same approach, caring for the patient and encouraging them, because this is a very challenging time where people are really scared.
