Q&A

Long on retention and recertification rates

New York City Council · Oct 28, 2026 · starts 0:57:35 · 42 sec

Long says 77% of members return for another primary care visit after one year and about 80% have had a specialty visit, with 70-plus percent recertifying annually. He explains annual recertification checks whether members have become eligible for insurance.

Dr. Ted Long

So Jonathan shared the numbers, but we can look at this in two different ways.

Dr. Ted Long

I think the numbers he shared are probably good ones.

Dr. Ted Long

So after one year, 77% come back for another primary care visit.

Dr. Ted Long

And I think it's 80% have had a specialty visit in their first year.

Dr. Ted Long

On a continual basis, let's say 70-plus percent recertify with us every year.

Dr. Ted Long

We do require you as part of the program to recertify every year.

Dr. Ted Long

The reason for that is your income can change or your eligibility for insurance can change.

Dr. Ted Long

And if should from year one to year two, you qualify for health insurance, we want to check in with you and be able to get you the health insurance you qualify for at that point.
