Long on Bronx health outcomes and hypertension control award
Long notes the Bronx often ranks last among New York's 62 counties for health outcomes, but says his Bronx clinic won an award for the best blood pressure control in the state, with an 84% hypertension control rate. He calls for working together to spread that success.
Good question.
We can pull the data on the outcomes in Jacobi.
We actually have a population health dashboard, so I can pull up in a matter of minutes by site, by Gotham site, or
by hospital, and pull up things like A1C control for diabetes, hypertension control, things like that.
I do just want to say one thing, because you and I are, I know, very close in how much we care about the health outcomes in the Bronx.
As I'm sure everybody knows, the Bronx is often listed as number 62 in terms of health outcomes of the 62 counties in New York State.
But a little bit of reason to be optimistic about how we can do things differently is where I practice in the Bronx.
It's not Jacoby, it's more Sania, so just down the street.
We recently got an award for having the best blood pressure control in all of New York State.
Beat every other place, every other private.
So even though the Bronx, on average, has lower health outcomes, we at New York City Health Hospitals and Mike
clinic have proven that we can exceed everybody else too.
So how can we provide that care, which I believe we do at all of our clinics, everywhere, both across health and hospitals, but across New York City as well, to regale you with a few more data points.
Our hypertension control rate in my clinic is 84%.
So between eight and nine out of every 10 of my patients that have high blood pressure, I have the certainty to know that I'm going to get them under good life-saving control.
So I care very deeply about the Bronx.
We've shown in the Bronx that we could do a better job than anybody else in New York State.
So let's work together to make it happen everywhere in the Bronx.
Thank you.
I appreciate that.
You're very welcome.
