Long on Medicaid recertification and work requirement preparation
Long details H&H's preparation for January 1 Medicaid changes, including six-month recertification and work requirements. He says recertification dates are flagged in red in the electronic medical record, financial counselors call patients repeatedly, and nearly 400,000 emails have been sent.
So what are we doing to get ready for on January 1st when the Medicaid changes happen?
They're going to come in two.
There's two big components.
You have to recertify every six months, and you have new work requirements.
So we see this coming from, this will be a crisis, don't get me wrong, but we see this crisis coming from a mile away, and we're going to move heaven and earth to do as much preparation as we can, just like we did with EP5.
So for recertification first, today, when I go to my clinic in the Bronx,
even before recertification on the six-month interval happens, we label it in our electronic medical record.
Your name will come up, and you'll be labeled in red, recertification date of X.
So then I know as your doctor, hey, I want to remind you to talk to one of our financial counselors.
Also, our financial counselors are going to call you many, many times to let you know that your recertification date is coming up.
And here we're going to work with you on it.
Here's what we're going to do to help you.
Here's how we're going to help you to recertify.
So we're going to have a very, you know,
cohesive effort on that.
And just to get to stay ahead of that too, here's another statistic.
To let patients know about what's happening, because we know there's going to be a lot of confusion, we've already sent out nearly 400,000 emails where the message of the email is, if you have questions, call our financial counselor, here's the direct number.
And more than half of them were open.
So we're trying to get the word out now.
Our financial counselors are going to serve a really key role.
And from the recertification perspective, all of our team members are going to be aware.
It's labeled in red in our electronic medical record.
And we're going to be calling you as often as we can to help you to recertify.
It's going to be very hard, but we are going to do everything we can to help.
On the work requirements piece, there's going to be a lot of questions about this too.
So our financial counselors are going to be our one-stop shop.
One number to call, the person to talk to is a financial counselor, whether it's about how do you recertify, what documents do you need, what reminders do you need, and also for work requirements, what qualifies as that, what's a certified, you know,
What are the certified ways to meet the work requirements?
The buzzer.
So on.
I'll finish up on this one.
I apologize.
It's very complicated, and I wanted to give you the full picture.
So all of that's to say on the issue of how we're going to help people to enroll in Medicaid, we're thinking about this mechanically and putting very comprehensive plans together with one of the cornerstones being financial counselors and connecting all of our patients to them from our doctors to the emails we send.
