Long on SHOW program and insurance status of unsheltered New Yorkers
Long explains that the SHOW program serves unsheltered New Yorkers, most of whom already have Medicaid because they are three times more likely to visit the emergency room. He promises to follow up on specifics of how SHOW enrolls people.
Yeah, I can shed a little more light on it.
So we'll get back to you about the specifics.
But with the show program, one of the interesting dynamics is the show program is for people experiencing unsheltered homelessness that are living on our streets.
And the show program, when we see people, we do have them see if they're eligible for insurance, if they have insurance.
Interestingly, the majority of people that we see that are unsheltered have insurance.
The majority have Medicaid.
For the reason that, unfortunately, if you're unhoused, you're three times more likely to go to the emergency room.
So we see you on that end, and if we enroll you in Medicaid at that point, when you're seeing the show program, you're already enrolled.
So I would view it as, we'll get back to you on the specifics of how show enrolls people.
I think it's by the phone.
We'll get back to you on that.
But the show program is part of a larger ecosystem where we have several different opportunities to enroll people in insurance.
And I would say for better or worse, we do find that most people are already insured.
Great.
I appreciate that follow-up.
And I know you mentioned that we could help advertise.
If your team could send over, like, languages we could add to our e-blast, that would be really helpful.
So we would have it that we can just continue to kind of remind people that it's available, you know, especially as Council Member Sylvia Pook's prowess raised.
You know, we're talking about...
potentially increase in uninsured New Yorkers because of, you know, draconian federal cuts.
So it would be great to have that information we can be sharing out publicly.
We 1,000% agree.
We'll send you everything you need.
And the offer is still on the table for us to join you at any important events from your perspective.
And at the buzzer, I'll say again, I'm going to keep saying this, 646-NYC-CARE.
Chair, can I get just one more minute?
Thank you.
