Q&A

Narcisse asks what else is needed; Long on the one number to call

New York City Council · Oct 28, 2026 · starts 1:08:18 · 55 sec

Narcisse asks what else is needed beyond funding to support New Yorkers losing coverage. Long says the key is a unified message that health care is a human right and that calling 646-NYC-CARE unlocks enrollment and a primary care appointment.

Mercedes Narcisse

Beyond funding, what else is needed to make sure as many New Yorkers who are losing coverage are supported by NYC Care or otherwise?

Dr. Ted Long

It's really you.

Dr. Ted Long

If we could walk out of the hearing today all believing and saying that health care is a human right and you just have to call that 10-digit number, then we will have made the world a better place.

Dr. Ted Long

We need everybody to let New Yorkers know that calling 646-NYC-CARE unlocks the gateway for them and their family members to enroll in insurance or in NYC Care, but not leave that phone call without an appointment to a life-saving primary care visit.

Dr. Ted Long

In a time when people are terrified about Trump's policy and what this means for them and all these things, having one number to call, I think, is the most important thing we can communicate together.

Mercedes Narcisse

I'm in agreement with you.

Mercedes Narcisse

I'm fighting you there.

Mercedes Narcisse

I love it.

Mercedes Narcisse

Ever since started.

Mercedes Narcisse

I'm going to pass it on to my colleagues out of the ball.
