Narcisse asks whether transportation is a barrier to care
Narcisse asks to what extent transportation is a barrier for NYC Care members needing specialty or frequent care. Jimenez says transportation is not currently an NYC Care benefit but that members use buses and trains.
To what extent does transportation pose a barrier to care for NYC care members, particularly those requiring specialty services or frequent appointments?
Well, getting to appointments is a barrier for everyone.
It's something everyone has to go to their appointments.
And currently, it is not a benefit of NYC care.
So it's certainly something we encounter.
But New York City, we make great use of our buses and trains so that people often willingly and excitedly commute to see us all across the city.
One great example is my whole family gets their care at Gouverneur.
They have for generations.
They live all across Brooklyn.
And we see that across the system.
What matters to patients is who they make a connection with, and that's why we focus so much on that initial connection with primary care.
