Brewer asks why social media advertising is out of scope under Local Law 83
Brewer says the out-of-scope issue matters because the media world has changed since 2021. She asks why social media advertising is excluded; Sidahmed says he will review how predecessors defined in-scope and out-of-scope spending.
Okay, all right.
This out-of-scope issue is mostly concerning because it's a different world than when it was when the law was implemented.
So I guess this would come down to what it is that a community and ethnic media outlet is when you have figured out their new or not new definition.
But social media advertising is considered out of scope.
And why is that?
Is that because of the law or is there some other reason?
I would have to really look back at my predecessors and how they defined the in-scope versus out-of-scope piece.
But I think that what I really want to do, first of all, is get all of the data for FY26, understand how spending was laid out for the previous fiscal year,
and then build a definition around that and understand how agencies are spending.
But really, ultimately, the goal is to increase the amount of dollars that are going to community and ethnic media.
That's the ultimate goal for this office and I'd love to collaborate with City Council in finding solutions for that.
Okay.
