Brewer presses Sidahmed on training materials and urgency for agencies
Brewer says agencies may not know what is expected and asks whether Sidahmed will develop training materials and roundtables. Sidahmed says the law mandates annual training and he will build materials after understanding prior agency relationships.
I've been joined by Council Members Felice and Council Member Stevens.
I'll call on Council Member Stevens in a minute.
I'm still focused on these agencies.
I know they have nice, wonderful, sunny ideas, but they still don't always do what you might want them to do.
So are you going to work with training materials?
Don't forget there's a lot of new people, so they may not have the background to know what you are hoping to achieve.
So are you going to do training materials with them?
Are you going to do roundtables?
How are you going to get them to actually do their job, even though you say they're so excited about this?
Thank you for that question, Cher.
So I really want to spend the first few months of my role understanding what their experience has been like with MOECM in the past, especially the agencies that maybe have struggled to meet the 50% or agencies that have large ad budgets.
Really understand what was the friction, what was your experience working at MOECM, how can I reduce that friction?
Once I get an understanding of that, and hopefully we can maybe change some processes and reduce that friction slightly, I'd love my training to be focused on the value and impact that working with these publications provides.
So really getting understanding of what are the communication goals of all the different government agencies and focus the training to be tailored towards that particular agency and help them understand that, okay, you typically work on these five or six campaigns.
Here's how community and ethnic media can.
really help you achieve those goals.
Let's sit down and work together and think about how you can build a media plan and maybe even bring some publishers in who can help them, help explain to them what their publication does, who it reaches, and how it can be helpful.
So are you going to develop training materials?
Is that also part of your...
Vision or is this something how are you going to actually implement this training that's what i mean yeah so the the law mandates that i have to train every agency um every uh
fiscal year i believe and i think the um part of my job in the next few weeks is really going to be
building those materials but i do think i don't want to build them without really understanding how things were done previously and what people's relationships i understand that i just i'm concerned because i want to get the money out the door because
you and I could be learning and they could be folding because they don't have funding.
So that's why I was asking these agency questions.
Council Member Stevens.
