Dinowitz says local news support is an obligation, not hope
Dinowitz says the office should not merely hope agencies understand local media gaps but should treat it as an obligation. Sidahmed thanks him and agrees there is a role for educating agencies about outlets like the Norwood News.
Yeah, I would think you don't just have to hope.
That they have an understanding.
I mean, I would think that would be part of your job, right?
And so I'm ready to work with you.
To make sure our agencies understand this.
The Norwood News isn't just critical, a critical publication in Norwood, Bedford Park.
It's the only one.
That was the only place my neighbors were getting their information.
And now they have nothing.
There's no other print publication that's delivering to the different buildings, that's in all the centers where people need to get information.
I stand ready to work with you, but I think the perspective should be less about hope and more about obligation.
I think we as a city have an obligation, and in your office have an obligation, to work with these marketing directors as you've identified.
To support local journalism, particularly those who have or are on the cusp of closing.
Thank you, Councilmember.
I appreciate that.
Thank you.
Thank you, Chair.
