Morano asks how Staten Island outlets are tracked and counted
Morano asks whether the office tracks ad spending by the communities an outlet serves rather than its headquarters, and how many Staten Island outlets are in the directory. Sidahmed says he will follow up with the data.
I have to maintain my reputation with Chair Brewer by asking a Staten Island-focused question.
So you've talked about reaching underserved communities, and I totally agree with that objective.
And I represent the South Shore of Staten Island, where a lot of residents rely on neighborhood publications that the larger citywide media rarely pay attention to.
Does your office track advertising expenditures based on the communities an outlet actually serves rather than simply where its headquarters happens to be?
I mean, and further as a kind of a second question there, can you tell me how many Staten Island based or Staten Island focused media outlets are currently in the directory?
Thank you for that question, Council Member.
I can definitely follow up with you on the second half of the question and get you that information.
And on the first half of the question, I would also need to follow up with you just to really get an understanding of how we would define that.
I think it's really important, though, what you're raising is that who are we reaching with citywide marketing dollars?
You know, are they I think when this law was created, the majority of the money was not going to community and ethnic media, which is going to really large publications.
So part of the role of this office is really helping city government understand who are we reaching when we spend with community and ethnic media.
So in line with that, I think there is potentially a role for that, and I'd love to follow up with you.
Well, you've got a partner in me.
Okay.
Thank you so much.
