Restler urges valuing hyperlocal reach like Greenpointers
Restler says real community outlets should be eligible for funding and that hyperlocal reach matters even without huge impressions. He cites Greenpointers as the best way to reach Greenpoint and asks the office to value that in ad selection.
Yeah, look, I...
I just, I hope that it's, I think that sounds reasonable.
I hope as you embark on that process that you focus on making sure that real community and ethnic media outlets
are the entities that are eligible for receiving this funding, that we're actually using these resources to not just reach New Yorkers and inform New Yorkers about the work of city agencies and opportunities to access services and benefits, but that we're also stabilizing the...
The community ethnic media outlets that are actually doing the critical journalism and engaging in their constituencies day in and day out.
You know, and I just, I imagine that as you, you know, update or consider the firm select, the ad firm selection process and
you know, that you're thinking about how many impressions does something get?
You're thinking,
about how effective a given outlet is at reaching specific constituencies.
I just want to say from the vantage point of a parochial council member, I represent Greenpoint.
Greenpointers is like if you want to reach the people in Greenpoint, you go to Greenpointers.
And it's not...
That Green Pointers may reach the people in Queens or the Bronx, and they may not have the most impressions in the world, but if you want to reach that neighborhood, there is no better way to do it than going to go and then working with Green Pointers.
And so I just want to make sure that we're valuing that and considering that as you both think through updating the ad selection process and as well thinking about how we define what a community ethnic media outlet is so that we're actually working to stabilize and support this sector.
Last thing for me.
Thank you so much.
I appreciate it.
The chair will shut me up when she needs to, which is often, I promise you.
