Wilson asks how smaller ethnic publications get fair access to ad funds
Wilson asks what the office is doing to ensure smaller publications can compete for city advertising. Sidahmed says the office will increase transparency about agency spending and work with placement vendors to include small outlets.
And so many of, as you know, many smaller ethnic and community newspapers serve residents who don't get their news from major outlets.
What steps is the mayor's office taking to ensure the smaller publications have a fair opportunity to receive city advertising funding?
So really, that's the goal of this office.
is to ensure that small publications have a clearer understanding of the steps towards getting access to those dollars.
So working with the publishers to just create more transparency about how agencies are spending, where agencies are spending, which media placement vendors are holding which campaigns, really trying to make that process really clear.
And then also working with the placement vendors additionally to help them understand that this is really important and that working with a small publication might be more complicated than a typical big buy,
but that they really need to do that and that we as the government see value in that.
