Council Staff

Ayala.

Diana I. Ayala

Permission to explain my vote.

Diana I. Ayala

Yes, thank you.

Diana I. Ayala

Um, I just wanted to to chime in as well and say that, you know, I am the the parent of four children, um, and two that I've raised that have all gone to public schools, and I've never had anyone in my children come home and tell me that they were being taught a curriculum that encouraged them to be gay, trans or anything else.

Diana I. Ayala

Um, I think that these curriculums are important because they teach our children to be sensitive to the fact that we're all different, um, to be empathetic and to be accepting, because what I do hear from children, specifically children that are part of the LGBTQ community, is that they're often bullied and ridiculed and mistreated in our public school settings.

Diana I. Ayala

And so I think that you know, uh legislations like the ones that we pass here in the council take all of those things into consideration, but I want to demystify the fact that as a parent of a public school students, um, I've never ever ever heard from my children or anyone else's children that they have been taught to become gay or to uh you know behave in any such fashion.

Diana I. Ayala

And with that I vote aye.
