Chair Lee Questions Post-Detention Mental Health Support
Chair Linda Lee asks about MOIA's collaboration with DOHMH to provide mental health and trauma-informed support to immigrants following federal detention.
And I think um you answered my question, Commissioner, already about I think I think HRA and DSS are probably some of the ones that we hear most about from the um agencies, and so whatever you guys can do to help push those contracts through would be I think immensely helpful.
Um moving on to health and mental health.
Um how so I know that aside from the traditional um mental health and health services, I know that more specifically there's been a lot of um trauma around the federal immigration detention that's being that's been happening across the city.
And so do you support um immigrants post-detention with their mental health needs or other services and what does that look like?
Yeah.
Moya's been working really closely with agency partners, um, including DOHMH to really understand better um the kinds of support that and mental health support um that we can uh provide to immigrants following detention.
There um this includes coordination with organizations um such as the Envision Freedom Fund, which is a veil and bond support nonprofit organization to strengthen connections between community-based organizations and the relevant agencies.
Um proud to say is in the preliminary stages of research to assess the mental health impacts that immigration post-detention and to identify where are the gaps um and and services and support that is needed, and we'll continue to engage our partners on uh this process and share those additional findings once we have them.
Okay, perfect.
