Chair Stevens Questions Transnational Worker Protections and Climate Impacts
Chair Althea Stevens asks about protections for transnational workers and efforts to address the impacts of extreme heat and climate change on immigrant laborers.
Agreed.
Um, and I know with the immigrant worker protections, because I know you just mentioned uh commission uh deputy mayor, sorry, Sue, uh there were a lot of discussions, especially in some of our roundtables, around being having concerns about workers who may live in the city but work outside of the city and having those protections applied to them.
So does the administration plan to connect with open with local jurisdictions to talk about how do we coordinate, further protect, um, and how do we do that, knowing that you know they they're not necessarily a sanctuary city like ours.
Absolutely.
I mean, these are real concerns that affect people's willingness to move um safely for employment and opportunity.
Uh, we are open to coordinating uh with workers across the country.
Um, do you want to share about the recent round table?
Yeah, we are um taking this international.
We actually met with um the transnational worker advocates um with the premier sue, where advocates came from actually Latin America to talk about some of the issues that they have been having.
Another touch point we've had most recently has been with workers and in connection with the chief climate officer to talk about the impacts of heat and climate on workers as well.
So there have been a new touch points that we've made um with the workers specific um issues that you've lied.
Thank you so much for that.
