Chair Stevens Raises Concerns Over 90-Day Contract Termination Timeline
Chair Althea Stevens expresses concern over the 90-day timeline for contract termination, highlighting the impact on human services workers who will lose their jobs.
What were these contracts in so um I'm gonna ask Margaret to help me with that question um because I um saving for projected for FY27 um we know that we need at least 90 days to uh continue the case management to transfer cases and so we're saying 90 days we know that we need 90 days from the from the beginning of the implementation in order to transfer all cases I should say that we transfer 5,000 families in a six month period during COVID and we did so successfully so while 90 days seems like a a very short time I do believe that we have a dedicated team that will make sure um that every family uh and providers get the support that they need to make this transition.
I mean, I just, yes, the families is also a a factor in this too, but 90 days for folks who are now out of a job is also a huge factor.
Yes.
So we can't agree pretend like that's not part of the conversation.
Like I don't, I agree.
It kind of felt cold.
So it's not.
I'm sorry, guys.
This ain't my hearing.
Don't worry, when we go back crossing by crazy, but sorry, guys.
But that's kind of that's kind of upsetting.
And you know, this budget isn't complete.
So my hope is that we come up with a better solution than 90 days of thinking about the transition of families and figuring out a better way to have savings because again, everybody's talking about an affordable city on both sides.
And that don't sound like we are thinking about workers, right?
I've I feel like we've passed multiple bills around workers in this council.
So my hope is that my colleagues get along board for us to fight to make sure that these workers are also protected because the human service sector keeps getting hit.
So, you know, I hope other you know, folks get on board with this because that is kind of heartbreaking to think that people will be losing their jobs in 90 days.
