Chair Lee on $21.5M savings plan reductions

New York City Council · Jun 8, 2026 · starts 0:25:02 · 1 min 51 sec

Lee asks about the $21.5 million one-time reduction for revenue re-estimate and whether it was part of the chief savings officer exercise. Batista confirms it was designed to not impact campuses and was offset by additional state resources.

Linda Lee

And FY27 executive budget includes a one-time reduction of $21.5 million for a revenue re-estimate.

Linda Lee

Was this part of the exercise that you went through as part of the chief savings officer exercise?

Linda Lee

Was that?

Linda Lee

And how was the amount determined, if that was the case?

Félix Matos Rodríguez

For reduction questions, we go to Ken.

Linda Lee

Okay.

Rita C. Joseph

I get all the good news.

Hector Batista

The

Hector Batista

The $21 million in savings relates to the savings program that we were asked to identify.

Hector Batista

And it's the way that CUNY is...

Hector Batista

Savings is structured.

Hector Batista

All of those things take place in 27.

Hector Batista

Is there, I'm sorry, was there more to your question?

Linda Lee

Oh, just how it was determined, how the reductions were determined and how, like what you used, if you could give us categories of where those reductions are.

Hector Batista

We are working through the details on how this will play out, but the

Hector Batista

additional state resources that we expect to receive.

Hector Batista

This reduction was very purposely designed so that we would not impact the campuses.

Linda Lee

Okay.

Linda Lee

I mean, yes, that is the main goal that we definitely wanted to push on the council side was that no cuts or services just to make sure.

Linda Lee

And I know some of them probably came from vacancies, but...

Linda Lee

Were there any proposals that you submitted to OMB for the savings plan that were rejected or not accepted?

Council Staff

No.

Linda Lee

Okay.
