Brewer responds to Morano on vetting concerns for Intro 322
Brewer expresses concern that council members lack staff to vet community board nominees properly, unlike borough presidents who have established processes. She worries about unvetted political appointments and suggests mandating borough presidents to have a process instead.

I just want to talk about your second bill to point out that the borough presidents, if they're good, and they're not all, have a process that says this person is qualified, this person isn't.
I worry that I, Gail Brewer, if given the opportunity, would not have the ability to put that person through a process because I don't have the staff to do it.
That's what my concern is, so that they're not vetted.
So that's why I have a concern.
Now, the borough president has no process.
That's a different story.
Maybe they should be mandated to have one.
So I am concerned about people who are not vetted and who are politically interesting to the council member.
That could happen to me, and I want that not to happen to anybody.
So that's where my concern is.
But I have great respect for you, sir.
