Chair Louis on increased affordable units and project modifications
Louis announces modifications increasing affordable units from 460 to 662, including converting commercial space to residential, reallocating museum space, extending the development site, and adding height to the East Building.
As originally proposed by the applicant, the project would have a total of 1,150 apartments, of which 460, 40%, were proposed to be permanently affordable.
Based on the modifications to the project that we are recommending, which I will describe in more detail,
and the leadership of the council, the project will now have an additional 202 permanently affordable apartments for a total of 662 affordable units.
In addition, there will be over one acre of open space on the site, and the site will include a museum, an educational space to commemorate the USS Monitor, a warship launched from Greenpoint that played a pivotal role in the war.
