Wong questions TWU on workforce training provisions

Council Member Wong.

Yeah, I think it's a fair question that how many members are dues paying carriage drivers.

So I'll answer it exactly as I answered it before.

I do not have the treasurer's report in front of me.

We have 150 members.

Most of them are here today.

If you'd like them to stand up, we could do that.

I do not see what the correlation is to this bill.

I don't see what they're paying, what their health benefit is.

We are looking to preserve their jobs.

That's what unions do.

But there is workforceman training on this bill.

I haven't seen any of it, so I can't speak on that.

But there is workforce training for these horse-drawn carriage drivers.

As I stated earlier, these men and women are in the horse carriage industry.

I don't know what type of industry is in the workplace development.

I haven't been a part of it.

But I don't think you're going to have anything close.

A hotel host or...

Casino worker is not going to be a job that they're adapt to.

So unless you have something that I don't know about, feel free because I don't know what it is.

There's been no discussion with Local 100 about what that particular job is.

And workforce development is a lovely word, but I don't know what it is.

Yeah, my predecessor, Robert Holden, when he introduced the bill, he asked for hearings.

He'd been asking for these hearings.
