Council Member Felder questions DOT on Citi Bike usage analysis

New York City Council · Jul 21, 2026 · starts 0:32:32 · 1 min 42 sec

Felder asks whether DOT regularly analyzes Citi Bike usage to remove underused bikes, observing unused bikes in his district and across the city. Weidenhoff notes her team is not responsible for Citi Bike but says there is data on every bike and dock, and offers to connect Felder with the relevant DOT team for more information.

Simcha Felder

I have two questions of a general nature.

Simcha Felder

Number one about the city bike, the program that's been around for many, many years.

Simcha Felder

Does DOT do a regular analysis to see the usage or not of those bikes?

Simcha Felder

And then...

Simcha Felder

For example, if after, I don't know, a year or two,

Simcha Felder

you have 20 bikes that have been sitting there for who knows, and one bike a week is being used, removing the bike, those bikes.

Simcha Felder

And the reason I ask is that I see in my own district and I see it all over the city.

Simcha Felder

There are certainly it's used in many places, but there are other places that it's just not for whatever reason.

Simcha Felder

And unless this is some sort of cultural art exhibit.

Simcha Felder

That the city has.

Simcha Felder

over about city bikes that are not used.

Simcha Felder

I'd like to, can you respond to that?

Emily Weidenhoff

So our team is not responsible for City Bike, but we appreciate your question.

Emily Weidenhoff

I can say that there is a big team at DOT.

Emily Weidenhoff

Every single City Bike, there is data about where that bike is and the different docks.

Emily Weidenhoff

And so we are happy to go back and have them provide you with a little bit more information about that.

Simcha Felder

I would appreciate that very much.
