Q&A

Abreu asks about current debt estimates

New York City Council · Aug 11, 2026 · starts 0:46:39 · 41 sec

Abreu asks whether the $573 million collectible and $744 million uncollectible estimates are still current. Lee confirms those figures remain the current estimates.

Shaun Abreu

Does DOF still estimate that approximately $573 million outstanding judgment debt is potentially collectible and $744 million uncollectible?

Shaun Abreu

If not, what is the department's current estimate?

Richard Lee

So that is the current estimate.

Richard Lee

And again, debt is considered uncollectible for a number of different reasons, including businesses and respondents who were not able to be identified or contacted.

Richard Lee

And again, it could be because businesses went out of business and we are no longer able to.

Richard Lee

Contact them and receive these collections.

Shaun Abreu

So the estimate is about the same still?

Richard Lee

Yes.

Richard Lee

That is our current estimate.
