Q&A

Off-topic Q&A on independent expenditures and DoorDash

New York City Council · Aug 13, 2026 · starts 2:01:19 · 51 sec

A reporter asks about speculation regarding independent expenditures from companies like DoorDash. Menin notes independent expenditures are by nature independent and declines to comment, highlighting the Council's work on licensing third-party delivery apps.

Member of the Public

And then the second question, I don't know if you want to address speculation about independent expenditures, including policy proposals that you support specifically because of companies like DoorDash supporting your campaign.

Speaker

Well, first of all, independent expenditures by their very nature are independent, something that any candidate, anyone running for office would have no comment on.

Speaker

And I think what we're really doing with this e-bike legislation, we're doing 17 different bills that we're looking at.

Speaker

We're also cracking down on enforcement, and we're also looking to license third-party apps like DoorDash.

Speaker

So one of the bills, Councilmember Shulman's bill, will actually put the onus on DoorDash and other third-party apps and really crack down on some of their conduct.

Speaker

Katie, you're up next.

Speaker

Oh, sorry.
