Chair Ung Q&A: Chokshi on data-driven policy adjustment
Ung asks how Chokshi would respond if data showed policies weren't working. Chokshi emphasizes data is the lifeblood of public health and adjustments must be made when intended aims aren't achieved.
So we were just talking about data.
So how will you respond if the data suggested that the board policy was not achieving its intended public health outcomes?
Thank you.
That's another thoughtful question.
We always have to adjust when the data shows that we are not achieving our intended aims.
This also requires humility alongside public accountability, but it's one of the things that I love the most about public health because data is in our DNA.
You know, we believe that data is the lifeblood of what we do in public health, not just because it identifies priorities for action, but because
within it is also accountability to make sure that we're actually serving the people that we intend to serve as well as possible.
