Chair Ung Q&A: Garcia on personal community engagement experience
Garcia shares her experience with contentious environmental justice hearings, emphasizing her priority of listening to all affected stakeholders and bringing feedback back to the board.
And can you speak a bit about your personal experience engaging with the kinds of stakeholders?
from who you think working groups should solicit input from?
Yeah, I have a lot of experience, as I mentioned, in environmental justice.
And if you haven't been to a hearing on citing a power plant in a community of color, you must know that some of those get extremely contentious.
But the goal is to remain and to listen to community members.
And so that is a real priority of mine, is to make sure that we're listening to all the affected stakeholders.
And we bring those recommendations, that feedback, back to the board, back to the land bank board, so that we really take into account some of the challenges that have happened in the past and also, of course, the best practices and lessons learned.
Thank you.
We also have Deputy Speaker Nantasha Williams on remote.
And right now I'm going to pass the question off to Council Member Krishnan.
