Chair Ung Q&A: Garcia on stakeholder input requirements
Ung asks which stakeholders the working group should solicit input from. Garcia identifies affordable housing advocates, community economic development nonprofits, and revitalization groups as starting points.
And pursuant to Local Law 56 of 2026, members of the working group must seek input for relevant stakeholders, including not-for-profit corporations
that operate in the City of New York to foster neighborhood stabilization and revitalization through protection, preservation, and development of properties that contain affordable housing, commercial uses, and community uses.
Can you identify some of the stakeholders from which you believe from the working group should solicit input?
Yes, obviously we think, I mean this is a really important piece of it that we create the new process with the sensitivities of understanding home ownership and how communities don't want to be displaced, certainly homeowners.
And so with that in mind, working with the council that created the law, we were talking about the purpose of local law, and also working with affordable housing advocates, community
economic development, economic revitalization nonprofit groups.
Those are the ones that I'm thinking that we would start out with.
