Chair Ung Q&A: Garcia on relevant experience for land bank board
Ung asks about Garcia's experience relevant to the board's real estate and planning requirements. Garcia cites DEP's work with the Department of Finance on lien sales and her experience running public engagement processes.
New York City Local Law 56 of 2026 requires that the members of the Board of Directors of the New York City Land Bank have appropriate experience in real estate, finance, property management, community planning and development, or other relevant fields.
Can you share information as to your past experience that you believe is pertinent to serving as a Board of Directors of the New York City Land Bank?
Yeah, so in my current role, I think there's a natural extension.
Because DEP has always worked with the Department of Finance on lien sales, DEP, as I mentioned, it collects unpaid water and sewer charges that may result in being transferred to the land bank or to the lien sale.
Also, my past experience having hosted public information meetings, running community engagement,
running forums where we're gathering information to be able to create a new policy or a new law, I think that my past experience in that kind of
legal field and policy field and implementing governmental change is a real asset as a board member.
Thank you.
