Chair Ung Q&A: Mangin on commitment to address council concerns in decisions
Ung presses for specifics on how Mangin will take council views seriously. Mangin commits to an open door policy and to addressing council member input in the decision record, noting whether the board acted on or acknowledged the input.
So what commitments can you make to this body that will assure us that you, in fact, take the views and concerns about any given project before the BSA seriously, and not just dismiss it, because the council has no formal role in the process?
Thank you for that question.
You have my commitment that I would take those views into consideration, again, within the legal strictures that guide BSA actions.
And I would also point to my record.
I think that probably the biggest theme
of my career, as I mentioned in my opening statement, has been to support fair outcomes by ensuring that all people have a voice in the land use.
decisions that affect them.
And that very much includes the paramount local voices.
So thank you for making that commitment today.
Can you give us a little bit more detail what that commitment entails?
Well, I would certainly commit again to having an open door policy with any comments that local council members had on individual applications and beyond that commit to addressing that input in any
decision record of the body, noting
in a straightforward way, the input provided by council member and also the board's response to that input, whether it was to take it and in some way modify the approval in response to it,
or whether it was to acknowledge it, not act on it.
Or so forth and so forth, but to report it in the decision record.
So thank you.
So you're saying the council members'concerns will be addressed, whether or not it's, you know, you're going to agree with it or not agree with it, it will be addressed in the final decision?
Yes, absolutely.
Okay, thank you.
