CM Banks Q&A: Mangin on local community role in shaping development
Banks asks about the role of local communities in shaping what gets built. Mangin reiterates local voices are paramount but not the only voices, and that problems in individual communities can't be solved entirely by that community alone.
And what role do you believe local communities should have in shaping what gets built in their neighborhoods?
And how would you view or inform your decision making at the BSA?
Thank you for the question.
Local voices are paramount in the process, in the land use process.
They're not the only voices, but I think they're paramount.
And, you know, when we went on the walking tour yesterday and saw
housing that was created by East Brooklyn
congregations and others and some of the gateway project.
I mean, it's just an amazing testament to what local communities can do, what they can build in collaboration with, you know, citywide officials.
Also in mind then, though, is that, you know,
The problems that communities like yours face can't be solved entirely by that community itself.
It also needs action on a more citywide level.
And so just making sure that your community has a voice in the full range of decisions that have affected
it over the decades.
So local voices are paramount.
They're not the only voices that matter.
And so wanting to ensure that all affected voices are included.
Thank you for that response.
