Speaker Menin and Chair Schulman on dashboard not updating post-declaration
Schulman raises that the Legionnaires dashboard was closed after the July 31 press release and couldn't be updated with four subsequent deaths. Martin says this follows the same approach used in previous clusters, and the website has since been updated with all 11 deaths.
agencies, legionnaires, dashboards.
literally say you cannot report any additional data.
So once the department issued that press release, if you go to that dashboard, you cannot update it.
So even though four additional people passed away since that press release, none of that information could be uploaded onto the dashboard.
It just says the dashboard is
sort of closed for business, like you can't edit it.
And that's what we've done in previous clusters, Madam Speaker.
We have a period of time that we do our investigation, our cluster, and when the exposure is over, we don't continue to update the public dashboard.
This was not something that was new in this cluster.
But for those family members that their loved one passed away, I mean, there are four people who lost their lives.
And it just seems to me that it would be common sense that the dashboard, as additional people tragically lose their lives or additional people are perhaps hospitalized, that the health department would
acknowledge that and update the dashboard accordingly so that the public writ large can get accurate information.
Every single one of those lives lost is a tragedy for us, and we have acknowledged those lives.
There were many, many public communications in which we did so, including in this testimony.
The dashboard itself is one specific measure that we use.
But according to our typical approach, we did what we've done in the past.
with regard to the publication of the dashboard.
Okay, I'm going to pass it over to Chair Shulman.
Thank you.
Thank you.
