Restler advocates for relocating PSAC 1 from downtown Brooklyn
Restler uses the opportunity to argue that PSAC 1's location in downtown Brooklyn's MetroTech campus is wrong, saying it closes off core streets and prevents the campus from being vibrant. He suggests the eastern Bronx location makes more sense and calls for reconsidering the downtown Brooklyn site. He acknowledges no one will respond today but says he's starting the push.
Not entirely germane to the purpose of the hearing, but I have all of the relevant people at the DEA, so I'm going to use my soapbox opportunity.
I think the PSAC 1 location is the wrong location.
And the idea of the Metro Tech campus is for it to be a dynamic, integrated part of the downtown Brooklyn community.
And the fact that we have PSAC there really closes off core streets of downtown Brooklyn and makes it impossible for people to get around.
We would welcome city agencies having a presence in those locations and those Metro Tech buildings, but I think it's the wrong spot for PSAC.
I think that the location that was built in the eastern Bronx.
makes a ton of sense and is unlikely to have negative impacts on surrounding neighborhoods.
It's an additive benefit.
In downtown Brooklyn, it really closes off an important part of a dynamic commercial hub.
And the Metro Tech campus is one of the only real campuses we have in the heart of kind of
the economic hubs of New York City.
And it should be vibrant.
And instead, it is largely fenced, half of it, a third of it is fenced off because of the PSAC operations and FDNY.
And I really think that we should reconsider it.
So I imagine none of you are going to say anything about that today and that you've never even entertained the idea, but I'm making a push.
It's coming.
It's starting right now.
And I look forward to future conversations.
Such a visionary.
Okay, Chair Felice.
Oh, and we've been joined by my neighbor to the north, Councilmember Dinnowitz.
