Won questions FDNY independent verification of EMS calls during outage
Won asks if FDNY has an independent verification system separate from OTI for EMS calls. FDNY responds they only see calls transferred to them and have no direct visibility into 911 intake. They asked OTI for a list of callers who had issues and called back, and are currently reviewing those calls. Won says this needs to be part of the emergency plan.
My next question had to do with FDNY.
It seemed to me that we need an independent verification system.
Hold on one second.
I think FDNY is out of the room.
Quick bathroom break, I understand.
Okay, you have another question?
Yes, I'll be right back.
And we can come back to FDNY?
I'll come back.
They want a bathroom.
I'll wait.
You'll wait?
Yeah.
Okay.
You have another question?
No, I didn't ask.
No, okay.
I have some questions.
Oh, there he is.
Okay.
Okay.
Sorry.
Right on time.
I am very sorry.
My question is, is there independent verification system from the FDNY separate from OTI's own account of EMS calls and like whether they were dropped or
what happened to those calls during the outage?
Please answer that.
Sure.
Thank you for your question.
So we only get the calls after they're transferred to us.
We have no direct visibility into calls coming directly into 911.
So the only way we would know is if a call taker had answered the call and transferred it to us.
So what we did was we asked OTI to provide us with a list of anyone that called, had the problem, and then called back and were transferred to us.
And we're currently reviewing those calls.
Yes, and that needs to be part of this emergency plan.
If it's down again, that will be the system you have to implement.
And to call back those people who cannot get through.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you, Chair.
Thank you.
