Q&A

Won questions NextGen 911 delays from 2018 to Q3 2027

New York City Council · Sep 9, 2026 · starts 2:37:14 · 1 min 31 sec

Council Member Won notes the original NextGen 911 completion date was 2018, slipping to 2024, 2025, and summer 2026. Gelobter confirms the current date is Q3 2027 and says as the new CTO she will take a hard look at the schedule given the delays. Won then asks about FDNY independent verification of EMS calls during the outage.

Julie Won

Since you mentioned NextGen 911, I did a little research.

Julie Won

The original completion date of this new system was at 2018, and then it slipped to 2024.

Julie Won

And then to 2025, and the latest I heard is that it will be done by the end of the summer this year, 2026.

Julie Won

Is that something you can verify what is causing this delay?

Julie Won

What if there are more delays?

Julie Won

How is that going to affect our current system?

Julie Won

Please talk about it.

Julie Won

Please answer.

Yes, thank you for the question.

Unidentified speaker

The current schedule for NextGen 9-on-1 to be delivered is in Q3 2027.

Unidentified speaker

That is its current status, I will say.

Unidentified speaker

I am new to the CTO of New York City, and part of what I am going to do, as I have done for

Unidentified speaker

several other programs that have been into place, is take a hard look, given the delays that have already occurred, and to understand what actually...

Unidentified speaker

Needs to still be implemented, how we can reliably hit the milestones that it's currently set to, and how to make sure it also stays up.

Unidentified speaker

So this is something I'm going to take a closer look at.

Julie Won

Okay, thank you.
