Council Member Won questions on community communication and liaison

New York City Council · Sep 9, 2026 · starts 1:48:34 · 1 min 47 sec

Won asks how the applicant will keep the public notified and whether a dedicated community liaison will be established. Lobel commits to working through Community Board 2, attending land use hearings, and forming subcommittees for programming discussions.

Julie Won

Can you help me understand how you're going to be continuing to keep the public notified?

Julie Won

So neighboring residents, MoMA PS1, the community board, the borough president, they've all requested regular communication from your team and a point of contact for the project to move forward.

Julie Won

How will you ensure that my office and all those members of the community that I just listed will be informed as the...

Julie Won

Development starts and will the project have dedicated community liaison to ensure open lines of community communication and who would that liaison be?

Richard Lobel

So I think the first thing is that we've already begun those conversations with the community board and committees on the community board.

Richard Lobel

I know that the co-chair of the arts committee basically discussed the fact that she had discussed this with PS1 and that they were, you know, that the application was something they were okay with.

Richard Lobel

And it was Carisha who talked to them and who spoke at the community board hearing in favor.

Richard Lobel

So I think the truth is that we would be happy to basically reach out to the community board and kind of have them.

Richard Lobel

if possible, allow for community meetings in this regard.

Richard Lobel

Like, I think that if I think that Ashley has been very open in her communications.

Richard Lobel

And so to the extent that we basically form a committee or subcommittee of the community board and attend land use hearings and do that, we'd be happy to do it through community board, too.

Richard Lobel

You know, we have multiple applications in front of community board, too.

Richard Lobel

And obviously they're very hardworking.

Richard Lobel

But I think that to the extent that we wanted to even utilize their offices or try to get them involved in terms of setting that groundwork for programming some meetings, we'd be thrilled to take advantage of that.
