Krishnan recognizes additional council members and introduces first public panel
Krishnan recognizes Councilmembers Brewer and Farias on Zoom, and explains that before DOE testifies, a panel of educators, organizers, parents, and activists will speak first about their experiences with screens in schools.
Thank you so much, Public Advocate.
We appreciate your leadership and testimony and advocacy on this issue.
Before going any further, we just want to recognize that we've also been joined by Councilmember Brewer and Councilmember Farias on Zoom.
Now, before turning it over to the Department of Education for their testimony, both Chair Dinowitz and I feel it's very important that,
on all issues, frankly, but especially on an issue like this, that we understand from those most directly affected and impacted by the issues how they are perceiving the problem of screens in our schools, how they are working on them,
and how they feel about perhaps even their own children being exposed to all of these different big tech products.
So with that in mind, before we hear from the DOE, we're going to call up a panel of educators, organizers, parents, and activists to testify first.
And I'd like to call up now for their testimony.
Khalid Salas from CEC4, Aracelis Lucero from MASA, Naveed Hassan from Panel Education Policy, and David Monahan from Fair Play.
And I'd like to, on behalf of both Chair Dinowitz and myself, thank the Department of Education and the administration for their willingness to have this testimony first before turning it over to the DOE for their testimony.
