Morano Q&A: hypothetical $1M for veterans mental health
Morano asks where DVS would put an additional $1 million specifically for veterans' mental health. Mata emphasizes ensuring no interrupted services regardless of budget outcomes. Orlando says community feedback would guide where gaps are and what the need is.
My colleagues and I all spent a great deal of time negotiating with one another and with the administration during the recently passed city budget.
And as an agency, as we continue having many roundtables at DVS, I've heard from many veteran groups that perhaps that this is one of the first times when the agency itself has really engaged many of the groups.
And obviously, funding for DVS was very important to me, and that's something I really went to bat for, particularly given that we're in the midst of a fiscal crisis and we were facing a significant deficit.
So that's an example.
So at DVS, we are meeting with our providers to hear from them directly to let us know what has been working, what hasn't been working.
And as an agency, as we continue having many roundtables at DVS, I've heard from many veteran groups that perhaps that this is one of the first times when the agency itself has really engaged many of the groups.
Something tells me that next year there's going to be a similar deficit issue that we're going to be working to bridge the gap.
And I want to make sure that, if at all possible, we can get DVS even more money.
So that's an example.
So at DVS, we are meeting with our providers to hear from them directly to let us know what has been working, what hasn't been working.
I'm curious, if this council could secure an additional million dollars specifically for veterans'mental health, where would you put it?
And as an agency, as we continue having many roundtables at DVS, I've heard from many veteran groups that perhaps that this is one of the first times when the agency itself has really engaged many of the groups.
So that's an example.
Would it go to more clinicians?
So at DVS, we are meeting with our providers to hear from them directly to let us know what has been working, what hasn't been working.
Would it go to peer support?
Would it go to transportation, outreach, case managers, or something else entirely?
And as an agency, as we continue having many roundtables at DVS, I've heard from many veteran groups that perhaps that this is one of the first times when the agency itself has really engaged many of the groups.
What's the specific unmet need and what measurable?
result would you expect from an investment like that?
So that's an example.
So at DVS, we are meeting with our providers to hear from them directly to let us know what has been working, what hasn't been working.
Thank you for that question.
And at DVS, we continue working, again, very closely with OMB regarding any, when it comes to the budget per se.
And as an agency, as we continue having many roundtables at DVS, I've heard from many veteran groups that perhaps that this is one of the first times when the agency itself has really engaged many of the groups.
At DVS, I continue
So that's an example.
So at DVS, we are meeting with our providers to hear from them directly to let us know what has been working, what hasn't been working.
continue as is.
I always prepare the, I like to prepare, so I prepare the agency, whether they're, whatever results happen within the budget.
And as an agency, as we continue having many roundtables at DVS, I've heard from many veteran groups that perhaps that this is one of the first times when the agency itself has really engaged many of the groups.
So that's an example.
The goal is that what we do want is, is
So at DVS, we are meeting with our providers to hear from them directly to let us know what has been working, what hasn't been working.
It's just to ensure that there's no interrupted services, regardless whatever the budget outcome may be, right?
And as an agency, as we continue having many roundtables at DVS, I've heard from many veteran groups that perhaps that this is one of the first times when the agency itself has really engaged many of the groups.
So I think one of the main goals is to ensure that the services are never interrupted, and I'll pass also this to Nicole.
Thank you for that question, Council.
I think that's a fun one.
I think for us, no matter what we're doing here at DVS when it comes to funding, to programming, to anything, we want to ensure that we have the public feedback.
So that's an example.
So at DVS, we are meeting with our providers to hear from them directly to let us know what has been working, what hasn't been working.
That's super important to us.
So that's an example.
We want the community to guide us and tell us where the gaps are, what that need is, and really get the buy-in from the community.
That is our main focus.
